Description Zone of Historic Monuments of Tlacotalpan

Port city founded in the mid-sixteenth century. Its urban layout and architecture represent the merging of two traditions, Spanish and Caribbean, the most outstanding feature of the city is reflected in the breadth of its streets, and its houses, showing undoubtedly the vernacular building traditions of the Caribbean. It is also the birthplace of Veracruz and Mexico illustrious among them Gonzalo Aguirre Beltran and Cayetano Rodríguez Beltrán, and poet and musician Agustín Lara.
