The port of Sisal was the main one of the country during the XVI century and until the beginning of the XX, when it became Puerto Progreso. During the colonial era the Fort of Santiago was built, whose objective was to protect the port from pirate attacks. Its distinctive lighthouse was added in 1845. Now this place to visit is a charming fishing village in which you can visit its fort, see the lighthouse, walk on its dock and visit the former customs office that is now Cultural Center.
