Manantlan Mountain Range Biosphere Reserve
Its name derived from the Nahuatl word "amanalli" which means "water source or tearful," describes the mountainous area that provides water to the nearby villages. Located on the southern tip of the Sierra Madre Occidental, a perennial maize in 1979 that drew national and international attention was discovered.
